Beaufort school district temporarily loses Internet
A piece of severed fiber in Savannah caused a districtwide Internet outage at Beaufort County schools between 8:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Thursday, according to Ross Hendricks, the district's technology service officer.
Hargray Communications is the district's service provider, and the fiber was cut by accident at a company connection facility in Savannah, according to Hendricks.
Hargray said the outage was confined to the school district and that telephones remained functional.
Hendricks said the outage was a "rare occurrence."
"I've been here a little more than a year, and this was my first time," he said. "Speaking with folks who have been here longer, they say it doesn't happen often."
