Man arrested for allegedly firing gun during fight
A St. Helena man was arrested on outstanding warrants Sunday related to a fight in June when he allegedly fired a gun, according to the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
Derrick George Holmes, 33, of Ed Grant Drive, was charged with first degree criminal domestic violence, pointing a firearm at a person and third degree assault and battery, according to the jail log. He was being held at the Beaufort County Detention on $61,092.50 bond Monday night.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the incident occurred about 2:45 p.m. June 22. Holmes was arguing with a woman when another one intervened. The second woman told Holmes to leave the first alone, and Holmes turned to her and displayed a silver handgun.
He shot one round into the ground of the porch they were standing on, and then hit the second woman with a closed fist three times on the left side of her face.
