Piano competition will build to a crescendo

The 2013 Hilton Head International Piano Competition for Young Artists started today at First Presbyterian Church on Hilton Head Island.

Twenty competitors ranging in age from 13- 17 are competing for $11,500 in cash prizes, a music school summer scholarship valued at up to $5,000 and a return engagement to play with the Hilton Head Symphony Orchestra.

There is more competition tonight from 7 to 9:10 p.m. and for the next four days before the competition is narrowed to five artists on March 9.
