PHOTO: Hilton Head Gullah Fixin's restaurant suffers break-in

Dye Scott Rhodan, of Dye's Gullah Fixin's restaurant at Hilton Head's Pineland Station, waits for the glass repair company to arrive on Wednesday after her restaurant was broken into overnight. Rhodan said whoever smashed out her front door and destroyed her cash register -- costing her $900 in repairs alone -- netted a total of 19 cents from the otherwise empty register. "You work so hard to try to make it, and somebody comes behind you and tries to take it," she said. Though she was unable to serve lunch on Wednesday, Dye said she planned to be back in business in time to server dinner evening. "You keep praying, you keep the faith and you keep moving on," she said.

Dye Scott-Rhodan, of Dye's Gullah Fixin's restaurant at Hilton Head Island's Pineland Station, waits for a glass-repair company to arrive Wednesday after her restaurant was broken into overnight. She said whoever smashed her front door and destroyed her cash register -- costing her $900 in repairs -- got 19 cents from the otherwise empty register. "You work so hard to try to make it, and somebody comes behind you and tries to take it," she said. Although she was unable to serve lunch Wednesday, she did reopen for dinner. "You keep praying, you keep the faith, and you keep moving on," she said. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office reported someone also tried to break into Hudson's Seafood House off Squire Pope Road, causing $400 in damage to a door frame. An alarm sounded, and no one entered the building. Sgt. Robin McIntosh said it is unclear whether the two crimes are related.
