Local Golf Notebook, June 7: Another Dataw Island course getting makeover

After renovating its Cotton Dike course last summer, Dataw Island Club has started renovations on its Morgan River course.

The work will complete a $5.4 million renovation of the island's 36 holes of golf, and the course should reopen in September.

Billy Fuller Golf Design of Atlanta is overseeing the work, which includes replacing irrigation, repairing cart paths, coring out, re-contouring and re-grassing all greens, improving the bunkering with new drainage and sand contouring, lake bank restoration, tree pruning and golf cart parking improvements.

According to Brian Hollingsworth, Dataw's director of golf maintenance, the biggest changes will involve three greens that will be adjusted to reflect growth in the surrounding trees.
