New Beaufort McDonald's about to open
A two-story McDonald's restaurant with a double drive-through is nearly ready to open in Beaufort.
Owner John McCoy held a VIP breakfast and ribbon-cutting Thursday, and expects to open to customers by the end of next week. Thursday's celebration included presentations of $500 checks to the Whale Branch Early College High School marching band, Battery Creek High School JROTC and Parris Island Young Marines to thank them for performing, he said.
The grand opening celebration is set for April 13.
The restaurant is at 2424 Boundary St. near the intersection with Robert Smalls Parkway. The city is about to begin renovations that will reconfigure that intersection, which will put McDonald's on the corner. Construction could start this summer.
McCoy's project began in August as a renovation, but the old building was demolished in November. McCoy and city planners designed the building to fit the Boundary Street redevelopment plan.
The changes added several months to the project, but McCoy says it was worth the wait.
The building has a modern style and includes flat-screen TVs, free WiFi and a toddler zone.
