Bluffton's Sea Turtle Cinemas sold

Cinemark Holdings will buy Sea Turtle Cinemas in Bluffton on Thursday, the motion picture exhibitor announced Tuesday.

By the end of May, the company plans to convert the 12-screen theater to digital projection.

"We are excited that the Bluffton theater will become part of the Cinemark family," James Meredith, vice president of marketing for Cinemark USA, said in the announcement. "Our plan is to implement a seamless transition, and we are not planning to experience any interruption in business."

The company also plans to offer discounted prices on "Senior Monday," an early-bird rate for the first showtime each day and online ticketing.

Cinemark operates 430 theaters with 4,945 screens in 39 U.S. states, Brazil, Mexico and 11 other Latin American countries as of Dec. 31.

Wells Fargo Bank took back much of the Berkeley Place shopping center, including the theater, in a foreclosure auction in April. The bank was the lone bidder, offering $10 million.
