Road resurfacing is planned this week in Beaufort’s National Historic Landmark District that will bring additional construction activity to the downtown area.

Beginning Monday, through Friday, road work is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily on Elliot, Congress and Lafayette streets, according to Beaufort County.

Major stormwater construction work has been occurring for months in the downtown area.

The county said resurfacing on Craven Street has been canceled due to that construction work.

During the resurfacing, motorists and residents should be prepared for lane closures and are encouraged to use extra caution when approaching work zones.

Road cones and signs will be visible to direct traffic.

In April, Beaufort County began roadway repairs on several roads in Beaufort as part of its annual roadway resurfacing program funded by the County Transportation Committee.
