Big Lots reopening in Beaufort amid national store resurgence
The Big Lots at Cross Creek Shopping Center in Beaufort has reopened its doors nearly nine months after the franchise filed for bankruptcy and closed nearly 350 storefronts. The Beaufort location at 328 Robert Smalls Parkway is decorated with a sign announcing “the comeback starts now.”
In December, the retailer announced it would begin going-out-of-business sales at all of its stores after an initial deal fell through to sell itself, according to Retail Dive. That same month, the retailer signed a deal with Gordon Brothers Retail Partners, which allowed Variety Wholesalers to purchase between 200 and 400 stores and two distribution centers.
The franchise has reopened 219 stores this year after coming under Variety Wholesalers’ ownership. The first round of openings saw nine stores open across six states. Two further rounds in May saw 132 additional stores reopen their doors. On June 5, nearly 80 additional storefronts reopened, including the Beaufort location and nine others in South Carolina.
Grand opening celebrations, including special deals, are set to take place in the fall for each of the locations, but Big Lots has not yet shared specific details.
