With the help of $300,000 in local and state grants, a Utah company is investing more than $7 million in a high-tech facility in Seabrook north of Beaufort where it will use robots and 35 workers to retrieve and assemble parts used in the defense and aerospace sectors for delivery across the country.

TL+CO Business Solutions is a supply chain company for the aerospace, defense and auto industries, said John O’Toole, who heads the Beaufort County Economic Development Corp. And its new local facility, the company’s first in South Carolina, will have an inventory of parts used in the sectors ito serve its partners.

If a client needs a carburetor for a rocket, for example, the TL+CO Seabrook facility will have the necessary parts in its inventory needed to assemble it.

“They will kit it up and ship it to you,” O’Toole said. “It’s very high tech.”

Robots will retrieve the parts and deliver them to sorting stations.

“Instead of using a forklift to go down an aisle, the parts are delivered to your sorting stations as you needed them,” O’Toole said.

One reason the company decided to locate in the unincorporated community of Seabrook is the 800 service members who transition annually out of the military from Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, said Linda Martinez, TL+CO president and CEO.

Salaries for the 35 employees who will be hired will be well above the median income for Beaufort County, O’Toole said. Individuals interested in joining TL+CO should contact Tim DiDonato at tdidonato@tlcosolutions.com.

The 15,000-square-foot facility, located at 1236 Trask Parkway, is located near the intersection of U.S. Highway 21 (Trask Parkway) and U.S. Highway 17 (Charleston Highway) 12 miles north of the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.

Operations are expected begin this month.

The existing building has been improved to accommodate the specialized business with help from $300,000 in grants from the Beaufort County Economic Development Corp. and the South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development. The Council coordinates economic development efforts of state agencies involved in recruiting new businesses and helps current businesses to expand. Its administrative staff is part of the state Department of Commerce, which manages the council’s grant funds and tax credit programs.

The company also is receiving job development tax credits.

TL+CO investments will be $7.5 million, O’Toole said.

The Beaufort County Economic Development Corp. is targeting aerospace and defense sectors in its recruitment efforts, O’Toole said. “Beaufort County continues to attract like-minded businesses, and with this exciting development, we are confident that this is just the beginning of many more opportunities,” O’Toole said.
