Expect to see fireworks in Beaufort Tuesday as Marines prepare for big air show

Be prepared for loud bangs and bright flashes in the Beaufort Tuesday.

Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Beaufort will be conducting pyrotechnic display tests at its Explosive Ordnance Disposal Range as part of its preparations for the 2025 MCAS Beaufort Air Show.

The display test is designed to simulate the visual effects of a bomb being dropped from an aircraft; however, no actual bombs will be deployed, the Marine Corps said.

But the tests will be a sight to see and could impact pets sensitive to loud noises so take the necessary precautions.

The tests will produce bright white flashes accompanied by a loud bang, and larger-than-usual smoke clouds potentially up to 1,000 feet in the air.

This controlled event is scheduled in advance, and local emergency services and community members are advised that such displays are anticipated as part of our training and readiness efforts.

While the displays will be dramatic, they will be well-controlled and safe, Col. Mark D. Bortnem, commanding officer of MCAS Beaufort, said in a statement. “We appreciate the cooperation of our community and local authorities as we carry out these essential preparations for the upcoming Air Show. We hope to see you there!”

This year’s MCAS Beaufort Air Show, which showcase the skill and precision of military aviation, is April 12-13. The star attraction at the annual event is the The U.S. Navy Flight Demonstration Squadron, better known as the Blue Angels.
