Penn Center’s ‘stunning’ nativity scene on St. Helena is Sunday. Here are the details

Penn Center’s traditional nativity scene has been performed since 1916 and it is happening again Sunday at the Frissel Community House. The program begins at 6:30 p.m.

Produced annually since 1971, the nativity scene was developed from the Penn School’s “Mystery Play,” a Christmas drama portraying the birth of Christ. The play was performed by members of the former school’s staff, students and the community from 1916 to 1953. The nativity scene features some of the same spirituals, carols and staging with a community cast.

“This stunning presentation centers on the nativity sequence that follows the birth of Christ,” a news release says. “As a member of the audience, you will experience the transcendent beauty of this presentation that evolves with a stellar enactment by adults and children from the St. Helena Island community.”

Penn Center is located at 16 Penn Center Circle West.
