Northern Beaufort County’s first Five Guys restaurant — known for its ginormous and juicy burgers, french fries and a multitude of milkshake flavors — will be open by early November and possibly sooner.

That’s the answer from the Virginia-based burger chain giant to the question that Beaufort residents have been posing as they watch the restaurant rise in the Beaufort Plaza on Boundary Street and Robert Smalls Parkway.

A company spokesperson told the Beaufort Gazette and Island Packet Wednesday there’s no exact opening date for the location at 29 Robert Smalls Parkway. However, the spokesperson confirmed, the restaurant will open within the next 90 days.

The company is advertising for a shift manager and assistant manager.

The city issued a building permit for the Five Guys construction on June 7.

When it opens, the Five Guys will join another national restaurant chain at Beaufort Plaza. Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. opened in March.

And it will be the third Five Guys in Beaufort County behind Hilton Head and Bluffton but the first in north of the Broad River. Statewide, there are 30.

Five Guys, known for its “hand-crafted” burgers, has almost 1,700 locations worldwide.

In a recent review of nation’s top 25 chain restaurant hamburgers, Mashed, the on-line foodie news site, ranked Five Guys No. 3 behind In-N-Out Burger and Culver’s.

“Few things in our fleeting, mortal lives can match up to the taste of a nice, fresh Five Guys hamburger,” it said.
