A new urgent care center that prides itself on quick care is up and running in a high-profile location at a Beaufort shopping center alongside restaurants, retail stores and a Publix grocery — and it’s open seven days a week.

Lowcountry Urgent Care is providing walk-in medical service at Beaufort Plaza, 21 Robert Smalls Parkway. It’s located next to Chipotle, which opened in March.

It has an onsite lab and X-ray and offers what it describes as quick, compassionate and affordable medical care for minor injuries and illnesses ranging from COVID testing to jellyfish stings to allergy care to cold and flu treatment to physicals.

The Beaufort location is also a Veterans Administration-authorized urgent care provider.

Rollie, N.C.-based Lowcountry Urgent Care, which is not affiliated with a hospital group, is financed by Rock Oak Capital Partners but owns its brand and 65 clinics in 5 states including 14 now in South Carolina, making it the largest independently operated urgent care brand in the state, said Helen Holthaus, a spokesperson.

Lowcountry Urget Care had owned a Beaufort clinic off of Robert Smalls Parkway near Jersey Mike’s Subs but moved to the new location because it’s more visible, Holthaus said.

Simple urgent care is offered, she said, with visits lasting no more than 45 minutes if possible. The clinic accepts Medicare, Medicaid and TRICARE and all major insurance. The cost for self-pay is $99.

Beaufort Plaza, anchored by a Publix that opened in July, has undergone a major upgrade that includes new store fronts and new stores and restaurants — and now the urgent care.

The hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays.

No appointment is necessary, but patients can check in online at lowcountryurgentcare.com/check-in/.

The upgrade of the shopping complex followed the completion of a $33 million redevelopment of Boundary Street in 2018 to make one of the city’s main thoroughfares more welcoming while encouraging development.
