A Beaufort/Port Royal fire engine rolled Thursday night. 2 firefighters were aboard
A Beaufort/Port Royal Fire Department engine rolled over Thursday night and left two firefighters with minor injuries, a department official said Friday morning.
The accident happened during a non-emergent response and no other vehicles were involved, according to the department’s Facebook page.
A little before 7 p.m. Thursday, the engine was on its right side after the accident occurred at the intersection of Boundary Street and Robert Smalls Parkway, said Ross Vezin, the department’s deputy chief of operations.
Because the accident is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Vezin said he cannot release details of the rollover. Photos show the engine on the sidewalk in front of the McDonald’s, with a fallen light pole nearby.
“Our main concern is that our firefighters are OK,” Vezin said, adding that both were taken to the hospital and have since been released.
Station 1’s Engine 1 is out of commission, though its absence has not caused any issues, the deputy chief said Friday.
