A free workshop is planned Saturday in Beaufort is designed to give residents information they need to keep heirs property in their families.

The STAND4LAND Taxpayer Empowerment Workshop is free and will bring together experts including the Beaufort County tax assessor, auditor, treasurer and the Center for Heirs’ Property Preservation.

It was created in 2017 by the Pan-African Family Empowerment & Land Preservation Network to help prevent Gullah Geechee and other South Carolina property owners avoid losing property due to delinquent tax sales, family land disputes and other issues.

The 2022 workshop is being co-sponsored by PAFEN and the Beaufort County Black Chamber of Commerce. It’ll be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at the BCBCC Headquarters, 711 Bladen St. To guarantee seating, reservations are requested.

To accommodate those unable to attend the event, plans are underway to stream the workshop on the Facebook pages of both PAFEN and the BCBCC.

Beaufort County Assessor Ebony Sanders will discuss the county-wide reassessment of property that will likely result in adjustments of property tax bills in 2023. That reassessment of property values is held every five years and was last conducted in 2018.

For more information about the workshop or to make a reservation, call 843-812-3558.
