Beaufort preparing to sell a parcel for $630,000. Here’s how it plans to spend the money
The city of Beaufort is proposing to sell a parcel of land to Beaufort County and may pour the proceeds — more than $600,000 — into park development.
The property, a paved parking lot at 1505 North St., is located by the old federal courthouse and is being used, in part, for parking by the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, which has its offices located directly across North Street, according to the city.
The city has no foreseeable use for the land, and is planning to sell the parcel to the county for $630,000. Closing would be before Nov. 30.
The city would like to utilize the money for improvements to Southside Park improvements, instead of putting the funds into Land Acquisitions revenue, City Manager Bill Prokop said.
The City Council is expected to vote on the sale Tuesday.
Also on Tuesday, council members will vote on a $412,000 contract with Davis and Floyd for engineering and design services for playground area improvements near the intersection of Battery Creek Road and Southside Boulevard at Southside Park.
The phase 1 improvements include a controlled vehicle entry, new parking for 40 vehicles, a half-court basketball court, playground areas, picnic tables, an event pavilion with restrooms, benches and walking paths.
