Bluffton man plans trip after cashing in $300,000 on scratch-off lottery ticket

A Bluffton man who won $300,000 in the South Carolina Education Lottery said he plans to use some of his winnings to visit his family abroad.

“I’m so happy,” said the man, who was not identified by lottery officials in a press release. “I’m very blessed to have bought that ticket.”

It all started with a non-descript trip to a Bluffton Parker’s convenience store where the man purchased a scratch-off ticket. The odds of winning the prize was 1 in 900,000, lottery officials said. He cashed in the ticket Monday.

The Parker’s retailer at 1286 Fording Island Road will receive a $3,000 commission for selling the scratch-off.

Over $1 million in high-value prizes exceeding $30,000 were awarded last week by South Carolina Education Lottery, spokeswoman Holli Armstrong said.

In total, the lottery department paid out $2.2 million dollars to players with prizes over $500 dollars during the period of May 31 to June 3.
