The Beaufort Water Festival has announced its concert performer. Do you like his songs?
The Beaufort Water Festival has announced the entertainer for its headline event, and organizers didn’t break from a tradition of country artists.
Granger Smith will perform in Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park on July 14, the Water Festival announced Thursday. The Texas native turned Nashville musician toured with Luke Bryan last year. His single, “Backroad Song” reached the top of Billboard’s Country Airplay chart in 2016.
Country singer John King and sister duo Walker County will also perform.
In an attempt to drum up some viral marketing, Smith began filming music videos as caricatured country alter ego Earl Dibbles Jr. The videos were a hit, garnering millions of views on YouTube.
“I wake up, put a dip in, crack a cold one, put my boots and my overalls on,” Smith sings in “The Country Boy Song,” a 2012 track with a video viewed almost 20 million times on YouTube.
Smith now incorporates Earl into his performances.
“I actually like to think of it as an ‘intentional accident’ because as planned, the video went viral and became a huge promotional tool for my music,” Smith wrote on his website bio. “But we had no way to know if it would actually work. Especially since many of my videos before it never caught fire.”
Tickets for the Water Festival Concert in the Park are $30 and the show starts at 7 p.m. Children 5 and younger are free.
The festival runs from July 13-22. For information and tickets, visit www.bftwaterfestival.com.
