2 trucks crashed in Port Royal, trapping 1 person and sending 2 to the hospital
A pickup truck and a work truck collided in Port Royal Monday afternoon, trapping one person inside at first and eventually sending two people to the hospital, according to a Beaufort-Port Royal Fire Department news release.
Two people in a standard pickup and one person in a “work configured” truck crashed at Ribaut Road and Lady’s Island Drive shortly after 3 p.m., according to the release. The pickup had “significant damage” which trapped a passenger inside until firefighters were able to use the “jaws of life” to get the door open. The driver of the pickup was able to get out of the truck on his or her own.
Of those three, two were evaluated on scene and then transported by Beaufort County EMS for medical treatment for what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries, according to the release.
Port Royal Police Department also came to the scene, according to the fire department. Lanes in multiple directions were blocked for 30 or 40 minutes.
