This ‘Beaufort legend’ has a new grave stone. Here’s where to find it
Those who want to visit the grave of a “Beaufort legend” now have something to see.
Nathaniel Bennett, a downtown Beaufort fixture who died in December, was buried in Beaufort National Cemetery. The U.S. Army veteran’s grave now has a headstone.
The stone lists his service as an Army specialist during Vietnam.
“Beaufort legend,” the epitaph reads. “We all love you.”
The plot is E483. The “E” section is in the back right side of the cemetery from the main gate.
Bennett — long a downtown fixture known to business owners and residents who often stopped to chat or give him — died of natural causes Dec. 11, 2017.
His family gave away much of the $3,500 raised by the community to cover his funeral expenses.
