A 27-year-old St. Helena Island man is accused of stealing a still-running car outside a Lady’s Island restaurant late Saturday morning, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.

Duane Chisolm was arrested and charged with grand larceny after the incident, online Beaufort County Detention Center records showed on Sunday. He was arrested on three previously obtained warrants, as well: grand larceny, fleeing to evade arrest or detention and trespassing. His bond had not been set by Sunday night.

The victim left her $18,000 Nissan Maxima running while she went into House of Tang II on Sea Island Parkway to pick up food for her family shortly before noon on Saturday, according to the report. She told deputies she thought she had locked the doors, but when she went back outside her car was gone.

While inside the restaurant, she saw a man in a yellow shirt walk in and walk right back out, according to the report. Deputies found the car driving near Chisolm Road, with Chisolm in the driver’s seat. The victim told deputies he was the same man she saw come into the shop while she was picking up her food.
