A burglar who broke into a Lady’s Island gas station-convenience store early Monday morning didn’t leave with his first option, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.

A man was seen in surveillance footage just before 4 a.m. throwing a large white rock through the front door of the Tiger Express on Fairfield Road, according to the report. He is described in the report as wearing a tan Carhartt jacket, blue jeans, white gloves and a ski mask. The the whole incident took place in about 2 minutes.

After smashing the front door, the burglar tried to pick up a cash register, the video showed. When he wasn’t able to lift it, he grabbed three cartons of Newport cigarettes — 30 packs in all — valued at approximately $210. He the unlocked the back door and ran away.

The video was not available from the Sheriff’s Office or from the store on Tuesday.
