A woman was shot in Burton late Monday night as she leapt from a parked car to dodge a barrage of gunfire, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.

The victim was been shot in the upper left leg, according to the report, and was taken from Roseida Road to Beaufort Memorial Hospital just before midnight by a friend who was driving the car at the time of the incident.

The women were parked outside of a Roseida Road mobile home where they had come to meet up with a friend of the driver, according to the report. The subsequent gunfire shattered the back window of the Dodge Journey and the victim dove from the vehicle and lay flat on the ground, the report said.

When she realized she’d been hit, she got back into the vehicle and the friend, still in the driver’s seat, took her to the hospital, according to the report. Shell casings and “other evidence” were found near the mobile home, the report said.
