2 cars raced around a corner in Burton before the gunshots rang out

A anonymous citizen reported two cars racing around a corner in Burton before hearing multiple gunshots fired around 1 p.m. on Thursday, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.

A silver car was speeding behind a black car — both darting around the concerned citizen’s vehicle and ignoring the stop sign — down Roseida Road and onto County Shed Road Thursday afternoon, according to the report. Eight shell casings were found on County Shed Road between Roseida Road and Kennedy Circle.

A witness who was driving on County Shed Road at the time later told deputies she believed she saw bullets ricocheting off the street and thought her car had been hit by one of them, according to the report. She was not injured.
