An SUV struck multiple street signs and a metal barrier in Colleton County this morning before stopping for help at a northern Beaufort County store, a S.C. Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The wreck happened at about 8:20 a.m., and the 2005 Ford SUV pulled off at Carolina Cider Company near Sheldon for help.

The driver, a 28-year-old Ridgeland man, was charged with driving under suspension, Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Matt Southern said. The man and another passenger were unhurt and face no other charges, Southern said.

Beaufort County Sheriff’s deputies and paramedics responded to the scene at the country store near the intersection of U.S. 17 and U.S. 21, a Beaufort County traffic camera showed. The SUV was later loaded onto a tow truck, the camera showed.
