Okatie car dealership break in leads to multi-state chase, 3 arrests
Three suspects are expected to face charges after a Sunday break in at an Okatie car dealership that became a vehicle chase into Jasper County and across the Georgia state line.
The incident began when deputies recieved a report of an activated alarm at Mike Reichenbach Chevrolet, according to a Jasper County Sheriff’s Office news release,. When deputies arrived, they saw a male attempting to steal a car from the parking lot.
The man spotted the deputies and ran across U.S. 278 into the Walmart parking lot where he got into a white Mercedes SUV.
From there, deputies chased the Mercedes on to I-95 into Georgia, where police there used stop sticks to flatten the vehicle’s tires.
The three suspects inside the vehicle were Savannah residents Nayquan McFarlin, 20, Jamie Ellis, 18, and Lonzell Chisolm, whose age was not available. All three are facing charges in Georgia before they will be extradited to Jasper County to face burglary and vehicle theft charges, the release said.
Investigators learned that the Mercedes was stolen from the dealership. Surveillance video also showed as many as eight suspects entering the business in an attempt to take multiple vehicles. The remaining suspects have not yet been identified.
The Hardeeville Police Department also assisted in the chase.
