Beaufort vigil planned in wake of Charlottesville violence
A candlelight vigil is planned Monday night in Beaufort in response to the violence last week during a white nationalists rally in Charlottesville, Va.
The vigil is hosted by Indivisible Beaufort and begins at 7:30 p.m. at Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park pavillion. The event is to oppose racism, hate speech and violence “directed toward any group that is a part of our nation,” an Indivisible news release said.
“We stand for a community that has NO HATE,” the release said.
Three people died during clashes between white supremacists and counter-protestors at the Charlottesville rally that began as a protest of the removal of a Confederate Civil War statue.
