St. Helena Island armed robbery included cookie jar, redacted dialogue
A man reported being robbed at gunpoint early Friday morning in an RV on St. Helena Island.
The suspect, armed with a small black revolver, took an undisclosed amount of cash and the victim’s flip phone before fleeing the scene in a vehicle, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report. No injuries were reported.
The RV was parked at Barefoot Farms on Sea Island Parkway shortly after 5:30 a.m. when there was a knock at the door, according to the report. The victim was sleeping in the RV when the knock awoke him and he found a stranger asking for change for a $20 bill, which was then presented to the victim. When the victim went inside to get some change from a cookie jar, the man followed behind him and pulled a gun, before demanding the $80 in personal cash the victim had in the jar.
The suspect allegedly ordered the victim to do something else but the details were redacted from the report. The victim did say that money belonging to his employer was also stolen.
The suspect is described as a 6-foot-2, 210 lb. black man wearing dark clothing and a bright orange baseball cap, according to the report. He did not appear to have any facial hair but had a fade haircut. The victim believed the suspect escaped in a four-door vehicle that was “somewhere between a burnt orange and a red tomato color,” but he could not provide a make or model.
