A Burton man found a gun in his grass when he was mowing the lawn Saturday afternoon.

The man called Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office after he found a revolver in the front lawn of his Pine Grove Road property around 2:30 p.m., according to a Sheriff’s Office report. He told deputies it wasn’t his and handed it over.

The Charter Arms Off Duty .38 special was loaded with five .38 caliber special, wadcutter bullets and had a significant amount of rust, according to the report. The gun had been outside for some time in the recent rainy weather and the cylinder was rusted shut initially. The serial number was intact and the firearm was not reported stolen. The items were taken into evidence.
