Children removed from Ridgeland home after drugs, stolen mail found, police say
A Ridgeland man was arrested at his Hagin Drive home on Wednesday after police found drugs and mail from several neighboring addresses, according to Ridgeland Police Department. Police also removed two children from the home.
Jarrett Sandifer, 20, is charged with possession with intent to distribute Schedule II drugs, according to online Jasper County court records. He is being held in Jasper County Detention Center with bond set at $25,000.
Police found “several hundred opioids including hydrocodone, Suboxone (buprenorphine/naloxone) and oxycodone as well as used syringes and spoons containing drug residue and various other pieces of paraphernalia” inside the home, according to a police report available online.
Numerous pieces of mail from surrounding addresses were also found in the home, as well as “credit/debit cards, personal checks and business checks with some bearing what is suspected to be forged signatures.”
Police were initially called to the home to perform a health and welfare check on two children who were allegedly in the presence of drugs, according to the report. While there, police saw marijuana and “blotter paper soaked in an unknown substance and then cut and packaged in small clear plastic baggies” in plain view.
Police filed for a search warrant and found Sandifer and Robert Halldorson, 18, of Ridgeland, hiding inside a bathroom hallway, according to the report. Sandifer allegedly had narcotics on his person at the time.
The children, aged 6 years old and 18 months were taken into protective custody, according to the report.
Halldorson was charged with first degree burglary in connection with an April 29 incident at a home on Live Oak Farm Road, according to police. Halldorson and co-defendant Matthew Hatchell, 20, of Ridgeland are accused of breaking into a home and stealing a rifle and ammunition.
Halldorson’s bond information was not yet available on the Jasper County court website Thursday afternoon.
Further charges are pending, including charges for additional people, according to police.
