Noted on Fripp Island: 13 damaged mailboxes, ‘golf cart breaking noises’
More than a dozen mailboxes were discovered run over on Fripp Island Sunday morning, seemingly by a golf cart found damaged nearby.
Mailboxes or mailbox posts for nine homes on Fiddlers Trace Road and four homes on Pelican Cove were hit, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report. There were approximately $1,300 in damages.
A neighbor said she heard “loud golf cart breaking noises” but didn’t initially think much of it, according to the report.
The homes were not all in a row but “it appears that random mailboxes were struck throughout the neighborhood,” according to a separate Sheriff’s Office report on the same incident.
An abandoned and damaged golf cart was found in a roadway, according to a third report. Two hand impressions were found on the hood where it looks like someone tried to push the cart backward. The cart was determined to be a rental stolen from a Fripp Island business. The cart sustained about $900 worth of damage.
