An office building and maintenance tool shop at a Cat Island golf club were broken into overnight on Tuesday, leaving almost $2,000 worth of property stolen or damaged.

Thieves entered and “ransacked” several offices and the maintenance shop at Sanctuary Golf Club on Waveland Avenue between about 3 p.m. on Tuesday and 6 a.m. on Wednesday, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report. Two lawn trimmers, a hedge trimmer, a chainsaw and a bag of miscellaneous tools were stolen from the shop. The items were valued at just over $1,700.

Two doors were forced open, causing about $200 worth of damage and allowing access for the thieves into the buildings, according to the report. The doors, which had been secured with padlocks, were broken away from the door frames.
