‘Let’s go to jail,’ man tells deputies during Lady’s Island ruckus

Shouting and cursing on the front lawn in the middle of the night, even at your own home, is generally considered bad form.

A 27-year-old Lady’s Island man learned that the hard way in early Tuesday, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.

Neighbors’ lights started to come on around 12:30 a.m. as the man shouted obscenities, broke a mailbox and caused a commotion on Sheppard Road, according to the report. He had been drinking and wasn’t allowed back into the home because there were children sleeping inside, according to the report.

“This is my yard,” he allegedly yelled more than once, telling deputies that the sister of his children’s mother was “tripping over nothing,” according to the report. His eyes were glassy, his speech slurred and he smelled strongly of alcohol, the report said.

“Let’s go to jail, I’m on probation,” he said. He refused to tell deputies his name for some time, according to the report. He put his hands up several times and said “I know you’re going to shoot me,” according to the report.

The man allegedly fought and spat when deputies put him into a patrol car, according to the report. After he was situated, he told the deputy that they were driving the wrong way to get to his house. The deputy reminded him that he was under arrest.

The man was charged with public disorderly conduct and taken to Beaufort County Detention Center where he remained Wednesday afternoon.
