Burton man faces drug, gun felony charges after being arrested in Beaufort
A 38-year-old Burton man faces felony gun and drug charges following his arrest in Beaufort shortly after 11 p.m. Friday.
Andre Skanes is charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, the manufacture of cocaine and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to Beaufort County Detention Center online records. He also faces lesser charges of fleeing to evade arrest, possession of less than one gram of methamphetamine and unlawful carrying of a firearm. Skanes is being held in the detention center with bond set at $71,087.50.
Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office deputies were keeping a lookout for “several wanted fugitives” at the Econo Lodge on Boundary Street Friday night, according to a sheriff’s office report. They saw Skanes and were headed toward him when he allegedly ran and tossed a handgun that was hidden in his waistband over a fence, the report said.
Deputies caught up and tackled him. They found over $6,000 in cash and the drugs, according to the report. The gun was also recovered.
