St. Helena Island teen faces felony gun charge after argument in Burton
An 18-year-old St. Helena Island man faces a felony gun charge after an incident on Polite Drive in Burton on Friday afternoon.
Stephon Chaplin is charged with pointing and presenting a firearm as well as four misdemeanor gun and drug-related charges according to Beaufort County Detention Center online records. He is being held at the detention center with bail set at $35,615.
Chaplin allegedly pointed a gun at a woman at a Polite Drive home after they argued, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report. When deputies got to the home, Chaplin was found near the passenger side of a vehicle with a gun scope, a .45 caliber Glock magazine and 72 rounds of .22 caliber bullets in his pockets, according to the report.
A pistol and “an assault type, modified rifle or pistol” were found on the passengers side area of the car, according to the report.
