Report: Man was ready to shoot the snakes he thought he heard in his bed

A St. Helena Island man thought he heard snakes in the bed with his girlfriend, so he got his shotgun out around 11 p.m. at their Glover Road home.

The girlfriend said he always thinks he sees snakes when he’s “high on crack,” according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report. The man claimed the only mind-altering thing he had that night was moonshine.

She was asleep in bed when he woke her up, shotgun in hand, telling her not to move, according to the report. He told deputies he thought he heard hissing coming from the bed sheets while he watched TV, so he got up to get his shotgun, came back and pointed it at the bed, waiting for the snake to appear.

No one was injured, and the man didn’t have any intention of hurting his girlfriend, so no charges were filed, according to the report. The two separated for the rest of the night, and deputies explained the eviction process to the woman.

According to the report, “He never found the snake.”
