Dataw Island raises money for veterans groups

Dataw Island raised more than $40,000 for various veterans organizations this week.

The community’s week-long veterans celebration started with 3,500 flags placed along the roadways. Assistant golf professional Chris Fearn raised more than $28,000 in pledges for the Salute Military Golf Foundation, playing 191 holes during a Monday marathon starting at 4:30 a.m.

The week also included the annual Purple Heart Golf Classic and a march of more than 100 veterans.
