A Burton man wanted in connection with an October shooting turned himself in Friday morning.

Rasheem Jones, 27, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm during a violent crime after deputies say he shot at a driver in another car, a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office release said.

The victim told deputies he had been shot at while driving on S.C. 170 near Castle Rock Road the night of Oct. 10. He told investigators a man he knew only as “Diego” followed him from a store in an Infiniti, pulled alongside his car and fired multiple shots.

The man wasn’t injured but his vehicle was damaged. Investigators later identified Diego as Jones, the news release said.

Jones was booked at Beaufort County Detention Center, where he remained confined Friday at 12:30 p.m., according to the jail log. A S.C. Law Enforcement Division criminal history search showed no prior arrests for Jones in the state.
