5k run planned for fallen Beaufort County deputy
A 5k race will be held Nov. 15 for a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office patrolman first class who died as the result of a brain aneurysm earlier this week.
William Breighner, 30, of Beaufort, died on Monday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
He began working as a patrolman for the Sheriff’s Office in January, according to Capt. Bob Bromage.
A 5k dubbed Miles for Will will be held at 3:30 p.m., according to a Facebook page for the event.
The run/walk will begin on Spanish Moss Trail at the Depot Road entrance. All proceeds from the race will go to Breighner’s family for his four children.
Dogs, strollers and children are welcome.
The fee to participate is $10 and a donations jar will be available. Medals will be awarded to the top male and female finishers along with prizes for second and third place.
