Burton man thought he was buying a car. He was robbed of $600 instead
A young Burton man thought he was buying a car Sunday evening in Burton, but instead was robbed of $600 at gunpoint.
The victim found a black 1997 Toyota 4runner for sale online. He made arrangements to meet the owner and buy the car at 7:30 p.m. at Magnolia Park Apartments on Laurel Bay Road, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report.
When he arrived with his friend and girlfriend, the owner was in the driver’s seat with the car running, according to the report. Another man jumped out of some nearby bushes and held a pistol to the victim’s stomach, demanding the $600.
The two subjects escaped in the 4runner with a “Jason hockey mask” hanging in the back window, losing the victim and his friends who tried to follow, according to the report.
