Bluffton’s mayor has some choice words for evacuation naysayers
Bluffton Mayor Lisa Sulka took to Facebook today to plead with residents to evacuate Thursday and protect themselves from Hurricane Matthew.
“If you stay, you are putting your life in danger, as well as the first responders who are here working tirelessly to keep all of us safe and protected,” Sulka said in a three-minute video posted by the Bluffton Police Department. “Those of you who stay behind, if you have an emergency, first responders will most likely not be able to get to you.”
Sulka reminded residents there are shelters open in Jasper, Hampton and Colleton counties and that Palmetto Breeze is still evacuating people today who have no other transportation.
“Please take my advice,” she said. “It’s not worth it. Leave.”
