The good news: Donations and celebrations in Beaufort County schools

Every two weeks, the Beaufort County school board recognizes donations to the school district and the achievements of its students, faculty and staff.

Here are the points of celebration for Tuesday’s regularly scheduled meeting:

▪  The American Legion Beaufort Post 9 is giving $12,050 to Beaufort High School’s Ospreys baseball team for a baseball field scoreboard.

▪  Oaks True Holiness Church Inc. is giving $1,500 to Islands Academy for academic achievement and exemplary citizenship awards.

▪ The Exchange Club of Beaufort is giving $973 to Whale Branch Middle School for a freedom shrine.

▪  Phillip and Patricia Knisely are giving $5,000 to Hilton Head Island High School for general athletics.

▪  Deon Smith, a sixth grader at Robert Smalls International Academy, was named the character education student of the month.

▪  Connie Marie Taylor of Broad River Elementary School and Jack Campbell and Jada Jenkins of Lady’s Island Middle School were celebrated for winning the WordMaster’s Challenge.

▪  Beaufort High School track athletes Savionna Glover and Adrienne Brown were celebrated for winning gold and silver medals at the 2016 Down Under Sports Track & Field Meet at Griffith University in Australia.
