School board candidate withdraws, leaving race uncontested

Caleb Brown, a candidate for Beaufort County school board, announced Thursday he was withdrawing from the race for the District 1 currently seat held by Earl Campbell.

Campbell, who represents the Grays Hill and Lobeco areas, is now running for re-election in November unopposed.

Brown is the founder of a mentorship program for young men called Committed to Excellence, as well as the husband of Carizma Brown, a community services coordinator for the district. It is not against school board policy for a new board member to be related to a current employee.

Caleb Brown said he will continue to advocate for students and serve the Beaufort County community in other capacities.

“It is with extreme reluctance that I suspend my campaign having such a strong support system,” Brown said. “However, I still have tremendous faith in the future of our youth. I want to thank all of my volunteers and citizens who have supported my candidacy and donated countless hours to helping me in my quest to serve on the Board of Education.”
