Beaufort walk to raise awareness for children’s speech disorder
A Port Royal mother has organized a walk to raise awareness for a childhood speech disorder.
Lowcountry SC Walk for Children with Apraxia of Speech will be held starting with registration at 9 a.m. Oct. 15 in Pigeon Point Park in Beaufort. Childhood apraxia of speech is a motor speech disorder.
Port Royal resident Stacey Rising, who organized the walk, said in a news release her son had been diagnosed with apraxia as a toddler. The idea for the walk came after they participated in a similar event last year in Columbia, Rising said.
Donations will be accepted and proceeds given to the Childhood Apraxia of Speech Association of North America.
The event will include children’s games, face-painting, a raffle and an appearance by Tux the Clown, the release said.
