St. Helena camper set aside for people ‘down on their luck’ vandalized
An RV parked at 797 Sea Island Parkway on St. Helena Island was extensively vandalized between about 4 p.m. on Sept. 20 and 3 p.m. on Sept. 22, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office report released Saturday.
Vandals caused approximately $5,000 worth of damage to the outside and inside of the RV, including cabinets, doors and furniture, the report said.
The owner it said he rents the camper “to people who were down on their luck or just needed a place to stay,” according to the report.
He told a deputy that he checked the home after the last tenant moved out Sept. 19 and that all was well then, the report said.
