Update: Man found dead on Burton roadside identified
The body of an adult male was found on the side of the road by a passing driver on Stanley Farm Road in Burton, between Laurel Bay and Shanklin roads, around 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
The man was identified as Benjamin Campbell, 61, who lived on nearby Roseida Road in Burton, according to a Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office news release.
Campbell was found to have multiple gunshot wounds, and his death is considered to be a homicide, according to the release.
The coroner’s office is scheduled to perform an autopsy at the Medical University of South Carolina on Wednesday.
Sheriff’s Office deputies blocked off the road between Laurel Bay and Shanklin roads for several hours to investigate.
The Sheriff’s Office has not yet identified any persons of interest in the homicide, according to the release.
