Fundraiser on Sunday for ill tennis player
An event this weekend on Hilton Head Island will raise money to help tennis player Armando Cruel, who suffered a a cerebral aneurysm and stroke in May.
The fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Jarvis Creek Park is being organized by Rosa Gelb with support from Matthew Pinto, the GoFundMe campaign organizer for Armando’s Recovery Fund, and the Hilton Head tennis community.
The event will include a garage sale, entertainment and Latin American food.
Cruel is a frequent and popular tennis player on Hilton Head.
According to the GoFundMe page, Cruel does not have relatives in the United States nor health insurance. The fundraiser will help pay for his treatment, rehabilitation and transportation to reunite him with his family in Ecuador. The GoFundMe account has a goal of $35,000. As of Thursday evening, $5,000 had been raised.
