Animal found beached on Hilton Head Island decomposing whale
An unusual animal that washed up Monday on Hilton Head Island and caught the eye of several residents was buried on the beach Tuesday morning after being identified as a decomposing whale.
Shore Beach Services supervisor Jerry Staub said the whale was “pretty rotten,” giving it an unusual appearance. The whale washed ashore Monday between beach markers 104 and 105, Hilton Head Island resident Cherri Sabo said.
After it was identified, the whale was buried on the beach Tuesday morning, Staub said.
