Halloween events in Beaufort County
There's plenty of opportunities for trick-or-treating, hay rides, ghostly tales and other spooky fun this month in Beaufort County.

NORTHERN BEAUFORT COUNTY
Haunted houses- Bikers Against Bullies USA of Beaufort is holding a haunted house from 6 p.m. to midnight each Friday and Saturday night through Nov. 1 at Beaufort Plaza, at the corner of Robert Smalls Parkway and Boundary Street. Tickets are $10 for ages 6 to 12 and $15 for ages 13 and older. The haunted house is near Staples, next to Burkes Outlet. Details: Trinda Rabon, 843-812-5494
- Carteret Street United Methodist Church's pumpkin patch is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sundays. The church is located at 408 Carteret St. Proceeds benefit the church's youth ministries.
- Pumpkins can be picked from the vine at Dempsey Farms. The farm, located at 1576 Sea Island Parkway, St. Helena Island, is open from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 1 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Hay rides are available. - Lowcountry Produce's Farm Stand has a pumpkin patch, maze, hay rides, face painting and a petting zoo. The farm stand is located at 1919 Trask Parkway, Lobeco. Details: 843-846-9438
Trick-or-treating:
- Hunting Island State Park will hold a Trunk-or-Treat from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31. The free event will include games, s'mores, face painting and candy. Costumes are encouraged. Meet at the Nature Center.
- The Exchange Club's annual ghost tours began Oct. 10. Tours are available as 45-minute carriage rides or 60-minute walking tours of Beaufort's historic district. During the tour, costumed storytellers will reveal ghost stories passed down for generations. Carriage tours take place Oct. 30. They begin at 6:30 p.m. and leave every 20 minutes from the parking lot at 1006 Bay St. The cost is $20 for adult and $10 for children, ages 3 to 11. Walking tours take place Oct. 30. They begin at 6:50 p.m. and leave every 20 minutes from 611 Bay St. The cost is $12 a person. SOUTHERN BEAUFORT COUNTY
Haunted houses:- The Hilton Head Island Firefighters Association's haunted house will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Pineland Station shopping center, 430 William Hilton Parkway. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10. Details: www.hhfirefighters.org
- Providence Presbyterian Church's annual pumpkin patch will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through Oct. 31. Proceeds benefit the Navajo Tribe and the church's children's ministry. The church is located at 171 Cordillo Parkway, Hilton Head Island. Details: 843-842-5673
- Trick-or-treating and other events will be offered from 3 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31 at Shelter Cove Towne Centre. Kroger will host trick-or-treating the entire time; other merchants will participate from 5 to 7 p.m. Free frozen yogurt is available to kids 10 and younger all day. - The Church of the Cross in Bluffton will hold a trunk or treat beginning at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 31. The church is at 495 Buckwalter Parkway. Details: 843-757-2661
- Wild Wing Cafe in Bluffton will host a "Walking Dead"-themed Halloween party on Oct. 31. The event includes drink specials, servers dressed as zombies and ghoulish decor. Cash and prizes will be awarded in a costume contest. Live music with Four Piece and a Biscuit will begin at 10 p.m.
- Okatee Baptist Church's Fall Festival is at 6 p.m. Oct. 31 at the church, 991 Okatie Highway. The free event includes games, a "trunk or treat," hay rides and cake walk. Complimentary hot dogs, chili, nachos and desserts will be served. Details: 843-987-0885
JASPER COUNTY
Pumpkin patches:- Holiday Farms in Ridgeland's The Great Pumpkin Patch opened Oct. 1. The farm has a new barn, new covered wagon and covered picnic area. There are also barrel races, pig races, duck races, cow milking, the Haytona Speedway, corn grinding and steer roping. Saturdays also have concessions and live entertainment. The farm is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to dark on Fridays and Saturdays. The last wagon ride leaves at 6 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Admission is $10.
